  3. ABOUT
  4. Dunce (or Dial-Up Networking Connection Enhancement) allows for much
  5. easier dial-up networking than Win95 currently provides. The program
  6. will automatically press "connect" for you on the "Connect To" dialog
  7. box, redial your Internet Provider indefinitely (even from within
  8. another application), and auto-reconnect if you get unexpectedly
  9. dropped.  Furthermore it can optionally run applications when you are
  10. connected and force connections at a given time.  2.0 Also adds MSN
  11. Support and support for international versions of Windows. Dunce will
  12. also type in your password in the Connect To Dialog.

  20. You may use Dunce freely on your computer system.  You may distribute
  21. Dunce freely on Online Services.  You may NOT sell copies of Dunce 
  22. (i.e. disk vendors) without express permission from Vector Development
  23. (terms normally include a copy of the distribution disk/cd).  You may
  24. NOT decompile, reverse engineer, or modify Dunce or its resources. You
  25. may NOT modify the dunce2.02.zip (sometimes dunce2_02.zip) file or its
  26. contents.

  29. USE OF THIS PROGRAM IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.  YOU AGREE BY USING THIS

  34. SETUP
  35. First make a shortcut by right clicking on Dunce and selecting Make
  36. Shortcut.  Then add Dunce to your Startup group (folder) by right
  37. clicking on the Start folder and selecting explore.  Then go to
  38. /windows/start/programs/startup and put the shortcut of DUNCE in
  39. the folder.  The first time you run Dunce it will bring up the 
  40. Options Dialog, see below that for more info on how to bring it
  41. up later.

  43. OPTIONS:
  44. To get to the options Dialog just click on the Start Menu. Go to 
  45. Programs select Startup and then select Dunce.  A Dialog will now
  46. come up that has options to turn on and off the continuous redial
  47. and auto-reconnect.  It also has a text box to enter the delay after
  48. the the dialogs the correspond to each feature is displayed, this
  49. must be between 1 and 60 (this may increase soon).

  51. RUN:
  52. To use the run feature make sure that the Run check box is checked,
  53. then click on Run Options.  In the Run Options Dialog select the first
  54. Active Check Box and make sure it is checked.  Then enter your path and
  55. select when you want the program to run.  Each radio button corresponds
  56. to the dialog box DUN displays.  Be sure you have a valid path entered
  57. or nothing will happen, dunce does not check your paths for you (the
  58. exception is the file selection dialog does).  For long filenames be
  59. sure to put quotes around the filename otherwise Dunce will misinterpret
  60. part of the path as the command line, leave the command line options
  61. outside the quotes.
  62. E.G. "c:\Connect Time Monitor\ccm30.exe" 1
  63. This feature is especially useful for items such as Scott Craig's
  64. Connect Time Monitor.  Scott Craig and his Connect Time Monitor are not
  65. related to Vector Development.  The latest version of Connect Time

  69. Microsoft Network Support:
  70. Dunce now supports Microsoft Network Connections.  It allows
  71. auto-clicking on the connect button in Sign In and Automatically saying
  72. Yes to the Dialog asking to Disconnect.  In order to use Microsoft
  73. Network Features you must turn on the check box in the Main Dialog and
  74. select the MSN Settings Button, then select the proper path to the
  75. Guide.exe normally:  
  76. c:\Program Files\The Microsoft Network\Guide.exe
  77. then activate the features you want and say OK.

  79. Timed Connection Support:
  80. Once again you must turn on the check box and click on the Settings
  81. Box.  Make a shortcut to your connection (if you haven't done so
  82. already) and select it in the dialog box for Settings Dialog, this is a
  83. MUST DO!!!!  You can select a time to connect, disconnect and a time to
  84. repeat this connection. E.G. if it is set to connect at 8:00 and
  85. disconnect at 8:15 with repeat set to 2 hours.  Dunce will connect
  86. again at 10:00 and disconnect again at 10:15.  There are run options
  87. as well, Timed Connections used your run options from Regular
  88. connections but you can select which ones you want to run seperately.

  90. Tray Item Support:
  91. Dunce now support a tray item.  To enable or disable it change the
  92. check box in the main Dialog.  Left Clicking toggles Dunce being turned
  93. on, a grayed icon means ALL Dunce features are turned off and a colored
  94. icon means ALL "enabled" features are turned on.  Right Clicking the
  95. icon brings up the Main/Options Dialog.

  97. International Support:
  98. Dunce now supports all versions of Windows to my knowledge!!!  This
  99. requires no intervention from the user, Dunce detects your version
  100. on the fly.  Enjoy!

  102. Shift Key:
  103. As each segment of the connection (i.e. Connect To, Connecting, and
  104. Connected, corresponds to the dialogs) begins if you hold down the
  105. shift key for a short time Dunce will not load the run items associated
  106. with that segment.

  108. Password:
  109. Duncw will now enter your password to the Connect To Dialog.  This is
  110. particulary handy for those of you who for some reason or another can't
  111. use Password List Files and logging in.  NOTICE:  DUNCE DOES NOT
  112. CURRENTLY ENCRYPT YOUR PASSWORD.  IF YOU THINK SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE
  113. ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER AND YOUR PASSWORD DO NOT USE THIS FEATURE.

  146. BUG REPORTS:
  147. When reporting a bug always include the following:
  148. 1) A detailed description of the bug.
  149. 2) A copy of your DUNCE.INI
  150. 3) What version your running.
  151. 4) What other applications or items in the startup folder were running
  152.    when the error occured.
  153. Doing these three things will speed up my bug fixes.

  178. 1) Perhaps a smart cancel system in which if you click cancel on the
  179.    Connecting to... Dialog it won't by pass the Connect To box.
  180. 2) Script editing.
  181. 3) Scripting/Bat support of run options.

  187.         Box Problem.  Splash Screen is a one time deal now.
  188. 1.2        Added timeout adjustments for all of the features (run excluded
  189.         for obvious reasons).  Added the run on connect feature.
  190.         Finally fixed the obnoxious bring to front bug (well sorta).
  191. 1.3        Added the minimize feature.  Fixed some very stupid typos
  192.         and actually fixed the bring to the front (z-order) bug.
  193.         Multiple copies of the options dialog will no longer come up.
